Discussion Topics

  • Minimal Detectable Change Paper
  • Not discussed as no members of the writing group were present.

  • The use of falls guidelines in clinical practice.
  • Interested expressed in this project (especially those who would not have access to a PD population)

    • A copy of the Falls Table will be distributed to all PROP members.
    • Members suggested reading this material with a view to discussing a proposal at the next meeting.

  • Protocol for the PD Project
  • The current edition of the protocol was distributed to the members present. Suggestions were as follows:

    1. SOMs that will be used to measure performance - suggestions included the Berg, TUG and Six Metre Walk Test.
    2. Consideration needs to be given to the time of day that potential participants will be assessed at.
    3. Also of concern was the repeat test. Members suggested a 7 day interval for practicality reasons. See RESCUE project.
    4. The issue of ethical approval was also raised.

Members were advised to read through the protocol and e-mail suggestions/comments to the PROP e-mail.

Members' suggested alternative means of contacting companies to get the I-Pod shuffle - a) explore other manufacturers - SONY, CREATIVE etc. b) make contact with PD/PALS association i.e. registered charity and submit letter with their backing. c) Face to face meeting with manager. d) Medical companies that supply drugs to PD patients.

A copy of the protocol will be distributed to all PROP members.

  • Move For Health Day
  • PROP appeared not to be overly keen to get involved in this project. It would appear that they would prefer more research based projects.

Next meeting:

A date for the next meeting has been proposed for the Friday 18th January, 11-1pm.
