Two presentations were given at this months PROP meeting.
- The first presentation outlined the proposed research study: to evaluate the effect of an individual auditory cueing device on gait in people with PD.
- The second presentation focused on a proposed project to compare current practice amoung PT's in Ireland versus the clinical guidelines for falls.
AUDIO CUEING PRESENTATION
Discussion points from Audio Cueing presentation:
Prop group wished to carry out an RCT on this project.
Discussion points included:
- Using a randomised patient group
- Inclusion Criteria: Discussed In patient vs Outpatient patient group.
- Next of Kin for Compliance
- Medication and on phase- Stable patient necessary for testing
- 5 patients referred from consultants list per PROP member who had access to subjects - discuss further how this would work under randomisation?
- Exclusion criteria to include receiving current physiotherapy treatment.
Decision made to carry out a RCT with stable patients not attending physiotherapy.
Three appointments in total:
- Initial assessment with baseline measurements of TUAG +/- cues
- Phone call to check that device is being used properly and patient is not having any problems? Next of Kin for Compliance
- F/U to assess TUAG and pt to undertake questionnaire on device/ self efficacy/ freezing of gait.
"Frequency of beat" Training session with PT's who have access to pt's.- agreed to use frequency set in previous literature.
FALLS PRESENTATION
Discussion points from falls presentation:
Members happy to carry out falls research.
Questions Asked:
- How do people use guidelines?
- Which ones are they using most?
- How are people accessing guidelines and becoming aware of new guidelines and initiatives?
- Don't coincide with student surveys when distributing the surveys.
- There is a MDT steering group for health promotion looking at falls guidelines. - PROP to find out more detail on this
PROP members need to decide who will begin working on this project and what tasks need to be broken up to begin this project.
