Dr Derek Doherty, Interim-Head of the Department of Immunology

The Department of Immunology (School of Medicine) is located in St. James's Hospital and provides a diagnostic and clinical service to St. James’s and Tallaght Hospitals and conducts laboratory research in immunology. The clinical areas of expertise include autoimmune disease, primary immunodeficiencies, allergy, vasculitic and connective tissue disorders. Ongoing research includes the roles of innate lymphocytes, dendritic cells, B cells and antibodies in coeliac disease, autoimmune vasculitis, immunodeficiency, HIV infection and cancer.
