Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Health Services Management
Health Policy and Management invites applications for its highly successful two-year part-time Masters programme in Health Services Management.
The M.Sc. in Health Services Management programme is designed to encourage and support health professionals’ involvement in the management of health services. It represents the University’s desire to further improve the Irish healthcare service by playing a key role in the development of professionals as competent healthcare managers.
The programme is designed to provide an understanding of management principles and their application to the complex environment of the health services. In addition to multidisciplinary teaching, drawing on the knowledge and expertise from across the Health Sciences and Business Studies at Trinity College, the programme also includes contributions from leading policymakers and senior managers in the Irish health system, thus ensuring a practical focus and equipping participants with the skills and understanding needed to manage more effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
Trinity College has a distinguished history of being centrally involved in the development of healthcare professionals. The Schools within Health Sciences have a breadth of experience in the training of a range of clinical professionals, placing them in a unique position to offer a post-graduate qualification for those who wish to respond to the healthcare management challenges posed by the complexity of the health system. The Trinity Business School has a long tradition of excellence in the field of management education and has been involved in professional management training at all levels. This programme harnesses the expertise of the staff from these two areas to provide an integrative learning environment for our programme participants, whilst the inclusion of key policymakers and organisational leaders on the lecture programme further ensures that students are kept up-to-date with the latest developments in the Irish health system.
The programme’s integrative focus is further manifested in the composition of the class itself. Each year we deliberately bring together participants from diverse health system backgrounds in a small class setting where peer learning is emphasized as much as classroom teaching. Group work forms a key component of the interactive teaching format, and students are assessed by a series of group projects over the course of the programme. The multidisciplinary nature of the class composition and the interdisciplinary focus of the programme help develop health systems managers who are at ease with collaborating across professional and organisational boundaries in bringing about a seamless service.
