Open Window

A novel art intervention called 'Open Window' is under evaluation in the SCT unit. This consists of a virtual window in patients' rooms which allows them to connect with works of art, film, music and the outside world. The project was funded following a competitive grant by the Irish Cancer Society and has subsequently been supported by Vodafone Foundation Ireland and the Bone Marrow Leukaemia Trust.

Catherine McCabe from the School of Nursing is evaluating the intervention and hopes to submit her results to TCD for a PhD in 2008. Denise Roche is curator and Fran Hegarty is project manager. The Director of the Study is Professor Shaun McCann and the study is unique in that it is the first randomised trial of an art intervention in the treatment of patients with haematological malignancies.
